Shineheart swiped at Badgerpaw. Badgerpaw jumped lightly to the left, but Shineheart swerved unexpectedly and pounced on top of Badgerpaw's back.
Pinning him to the ground, Shineheart mewed, "Remember, your enemy will never fight in your style. They may do unexpected things, so always be ready." Jumping up, she gazed at the obedient apprentice. So far, Badgerpaw had been a desirable apprentice, following her every step and instruction carefully. "Why don't you go hunt for a while with Berrypaw!" she mewed commandingly. Immediately, Badgerpaw set off to find Berrykit. Laughing, Shineheart padded over to the warriors den where Fuzzypelt and Brakentail were resting. They had been hunting almost all day. Fuzzypelt was as lively as ever. Brakentail was yawning, ready to collapse into sleep. Shineheart sighed. Life was too unexciting. Nothing happened but the usual. Her heart yearned for adventure. Meanwhile, Badgerkit was setting out with Berrypaw. "Berrypaw," he whispered eagerly, after they had crept along for a while, "are we going to the river?" "Yes," mewed Berrypaw, eyes glittering in determination. The apprentices had never gone close to the river alone. "We're here!" whispered Badgerpaw. Suddenly Berrypaw snarled. A rustle in the bushes disturbed her. Growling feircly, she flung herself at the shuddering blades of the reeds. Yowling erupted from the reeds, and Badgerpaw flung himself into it. Gleaming claws scratched at his face. The strange grey creature yowled fiercly and popped out of the reeds and swam across the river. Turning, Badgerpaw spotted Berrypaw limping back toward camp. Flying to meet her, Badgerpaw mewed nervously, "Are you okay?" "I hope so," mewed Berrypaw weakly. Blood was streaming from various wounds on her side. "What was that thing, anyways?" Badgerpaw mewed. "I think it was a grey fox." Berrypaw gasped. The elders had told stories of when the grey foxes were plentiful, coming to the river everyday to drink. Badgerpaw looked at Berrypaw in worry. She needed help from the medicine cats, and soon. Message from Fuzzypelt: The Story of Fuzzypelt is now going to be divided into short stories of everyday life... so enjoy and comment new ideas! :D Brakenpaw's paws slashed the air close to Fuzzypaw's ear. Growling, Fuzzypaw skipped out of the way and leapt into battle. Rolling over, Brakenpaw countered with all four paws, battering at the advancing Fuzzypaw.
"That's good," mewed Bumblestar, nodding her approval at their training. Backing away from each other, Brakenpaw and Fuzzypaw sat respectfully with bowed heads, awaiting their mentor's call. "Why don't you to go hunting. We can always use another fish!" Fishtail mewed, coming up behind Bumblestar. Brakenpaw and Fuzzypaw skipped out of the clearing and into the wild. They headed towards the river. Brakentail was concentrating on a water mole close to the banks of the north river, but Fuzzypelt went further south. Suddenly, a humongous fish leapt out of the water, droplets of water splashing the unexpecting Fuzzypaw. She leapt into the somewhat shallow river and swiped at the fish. The fish, which was much stronger than she expected, fought back. The struggle was on. Fuzzypaw dragged it out of the water, where it flopped around like crazy. She sunk her teeth into it, and it stilled. Brakenpaw came over, and her eyes opened wide as she saw the fish. "That's gotta be the biggest fish I've ever seen!" she mewed in surprise. Fuzzypaw dragged the fish back into camp, and generously gave it to Splashstone, one of the elders. She slumped over to her den, and watched the glorious sun go down slowly over the horizon. Her eyes closed in sleep. “Oh, please, Quickpaw, can we stop for one moment? Please?” Shykit whined, stumbling across a pile of rocks. Quickpaw accepted the plea quickly. They were in the middle of a forest; he could see the rocks covered in moss and smelled prey scent everywhere. “Sure.” he answered tiredly. Ravenpaw said wearily, “We will leave in two days after we've rested.” “This is a nice place!” Daisykit’s voice was faint and muffled. “Daisykit? Where are you?” Silverclaw meowed in alarm. Daisykit emerged from a nearby pile of rocks. Interested, Quickpaw trotted over to them. “Great Star Clan!” he mewed. “There’s a huge hollow in these rocks. The other kits rushed over. Indeed, there was a huge hollow! Big enough to fit plenty of cats… “I’ve got it!” Quickpaw mewed excitedly. “This is our camp! There is everything we need here.” Ravenpaw looked into the hollow once again. “It seems big enough to fit plenty of cats, and it also has a narrow entrance. It could be very hard to attack with proper shielding! I think it’s perfect, Quickpaw.” Silverclaw nodded in respect. “You have made a excellent choice. Then she called, “Daisykit, Shykit, Strongkit, and Leftkit!” “Yes?” they mewed. They had entered the cave again. Quickpaw padded inside. He surveyed it. Suddenly a loud screech came from the back of the cave. “Daisykit!” Silverpelt wailed. She raced into the corner. Sighing with relief, she realized Daisykit was fine. Quickpaw ran up. “Daisykit, what scared you?” for he could see her eyes were staring into the darkness, obviously deathly afraid of something. “A-a badg-ger! Ov-ver the-e-re!” she stuttered. Quickpaw’s eyes filled with horror when he saw a large badger emerge from the darkness. Silverclaw gathered her kits around her, growling. Quickpaw braced himself and prepared to leap, when a voice startled him. “Don't pounce.” He stared in unbelief. The badger sighed. “You cats never get over me talking, do you!” Sighing again, she rumbled off again. “Don’t worry Silverclaw, and Ravenpaw. Suddenly Ravenpaw gasped. “I know you, Midnight! Bramblestar told me all about you!” Turning to Silverclaw and Quickpaw, he added, “You can trust her. She helped many cats. She would help us.” “I leave you for six days. I will return with instruction and good tidings.” Midnight said. Quickpaw, who was now big enough to be a warrior, stood up to his full hight and answered, "We will wait."
Shinepaw was centered on her prey, tail swishing in the long reeds surrounding the river. Eyes glued to her quarry, she didn't notice Badgerkit creeping up beside her. He stared intently at the water mole. Shinekit, still focused on her prey, mewed faintly, "Shhh. Don't move." Badgerkit, excited to be hunting, shifted on to his hind legs and made ready to pounce. The mole twitched it's ears. Badgerkit, sensing it's nervousness, crouched low and pounced. Mewling, he landed flat on the water mole, which was almost as big as he was. It kicked him off and scuttled into the river. "Badgerkit!" Shinepaw mewed fiercely. "Get back to camp!" Badgerkit crept back toward camp. Shinepaw sighed in exasperation. Badgerkit was such a handful. When would he learn to stay out of other's business. business strutted back into camp, carrying a large fish. "All cats old enough to catch prey gather!" Skystar yowled. Shinepaw dropped all thoughts of Badgerkit. Was this her warriors ceremony. Skystar mewed, "Shinepaw, come forward." Shinepaw, who was shaking from excitement, padded up to River Clan's leader. "Shinepaw, do you promise to follow the warrior's code, and serve your clan with no delay for as long as you live?" warrior's mewed confidently, "I do." "Then by the power of Star Clan," mewed Skystar, "I give you your warrior name, Shineheart!" Shineheart touched noses with Skystar, and turned to face the crowd. Brakentail nodded. A cat started chanting, "Shineheart!" and soon the whole clan was congratulating the new warrior. congratulating proudly padded into the clearing. "As this is your first night as a warrior, you must keep vigil until the sun rises." Skystar added. "I will, " Shineheart answered. She was a warrior now.
